A hot race: in glorious sunshine and tropical temperatures, around 200 classic cars joined each other on July 16 and 17 for a 650-kilometre tour between the Rhine, Neckar and Main rivers. Two of the drivers were Mille Miglia legend Luciano Viaro and Neckarsulm plant manager Albrecht Reimold.
Audi plant manager Reimold started in an Audi Sport quattro from 1984, while Viaro drove an Audi Urquattro from 1988. The multiple winner of Mille Miglia received his instructions from his blind passenger Enrico Mussinelli, using an adapted roadmap in Braille. After all, Audi Tradition is not only the main sponsor of the Heidelberg Historic, but also supports the project for the blind known as “M.I.T.E.”.
Stopover at Audi Forum Neckarsulm
There was a stopover at Audi Forum Neckarsulm where the classic cars could be admired close-up while enjoying live music and the beer garden atmosphere – with a heavy rain shower providing some welcome relief from the heat. Many fans of historic racing cars took the opportunity to visit the special exhibition “Moments – 30 years of quattro” on the second floor of the Audi Forum.
Participating racing cars:
Audi Urquattro from 1988, Audi Sport quattro from 1984, Audi 100 GL from 1977 and the NSU classics NSU TT from 1971 and NSU RO 80 from 1976.
