Audi was represented by two celebrity drivers at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2010: Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason met up with three-time Le Mans winner Marco Werner. Mason was at the wheel of a twin-supercharged Auto Union Type D, while Werner was driving an Audi V8 quattro DTM.
The world’s biggest historical motor racing event took place from 2 to 4 July 2010 and attracted around 150,000 visitors. As every year, the Earl of March and Kinrara invited friends of historic motor racing to their annual Mecca at Goodwood in the south of England.
Pink Floyd drummer meets Le Mans hero
This was the fourth time that Nick Mason lined up on the grid in an Auto Union “Silver Arrow”, and in honour of that fact he is known as “Auto Union’s last works driver”. The Auto Union Type D with twin superchargers, vintage 1939, was recreated by Audi Tradition just a few years ago. Le Mans hero Marco Werner drove a 470 bhp Audi V8 quattro DTM from 1992. Marco Werner is one of the few winners of all three long-distance classics: Le Mans, Daytona and Sebring.
Participating racing cars: Auto Union Silver Arrow Type D Twin Compressor from 1939, Audi V8 DTM and a DKW racing motorcycle.
